Day 36, August 16...Whitehorse to Watson Lake, YT

I woke up this morning and took a look out the window and...sunshine!  Checked Weather Bug and...sunshine.  Rained all day.

As I was leaving Whitehorse, I stopped at the SS Klondike, a river boat like the SS Keno in Dawson City.  Both boats plied the Yukon River up until the 1960's or so.  Here's the Klondike:

When I left Whitehorse, it was in the low 50's and quite pleasant.  The further east I got on the Alaska Highway, the cloudier it got, and it rained most of the way to Watson Lake.  In fact, it's raining now.  The scenery along the way is pretty much what you see up here, rolling hills and lots of trees. The whole day looked pretty much like this:

I did stop in Teslin, about halfway, at the George Johnston Museum.  George was a local "First Nation" person who lived in the area from 1878 to 1962.  He struck it rich when the Alaska Highway came through and established the town of Teslin, and the museum preserves some of the local Native artifacts:

Worth the stop.

Tomorrow I'm headed south away from the Alaska Highway and on the Cassiar Highway to a resort about 300 miles from here that isn't even in a town.  It's called the Bell2 Resort and I don't expect to have cell phone or wifi coverage.  So..tomorrow's blog will be delayed by a day.

Miles today:  282
Total to date:  8,459
