Day 21, August 1...Tok, Alaska to Fairbanks, Alaska

I left Tok this morning and headed north on the Alaska Highway to Delta Junction, which is the actual terminus of the Highway and the point at which construction began in 1942 headed south.  Construction began at Dawson Creek at the same time headed north, and the two parties actually met in the Yukon.  Anyway, you saw the famous picture of the Zero Milepost in the heart of Dawson Creek, and here's Milepost 1,422 at the other end of the Highway:

From Delta Junction, it's about 100 miles more to Fairbanks. The VC in Delta Junction was interesting and they had a few pieces of construction equipment on display from the building of the Highway:

In the background behind the shovel, you can see a "Deuce and a Half", the iconic 2 1/2 Ton six-wheel drive workhorse truck of WWII.

I did get a couple shots of the scenery on the way up.  This was between Tok and Delta Junction:

The Visitor Center in Delta Junction did have a couple nice statues of the State Bird of Alaska:

I'll be in Fairbanks the next three days taking in all the sights, and then down to Anchorage.

Miles today:  222
Total:           5,837
