Day 38, August 18...Bell 2 Lodge to Smithers, BC

Well, today started out cool and wet, but fortunately things cleared up pretty much by 11:00 or so.  I left the Bell 2 Lodge this morning and headed south on Hwy 37, the Cassiar Hwy toward the town of Kitwanga, which is where the Cassiar dead-ends into Hwy 16, the Yellowhead Highway.  From there I headed east to the town of Smithers, where I'm spending the night.

The trip south from Bell 2 was rather uneventful.  The terrain was kind of rolling hills surrounded by lots of trees, with only a few settlements every 50 miles or so.  The road got better the further south I went, but there weren't many places to pull off and take any pictures.  I did get one pic on the way south, though:

I pulled of Hwy 16 at the town of Hazelton where you could see some nice scenery:

Smithers is a nice little town of about 6,000 people.  Here are a couple of pics of Main Street:

I took this picture a few minutes ago.  That is fresh snow on top of the mountain:

Anyway, pretty nice day today after all, and it's supposed to clear up tomorrow.  I'm ready for some serious sweat!

Tomorrow, it's down  Hwy 16 east to the city of Prince George, BC.

Miles today:  230
To Date:    8,998
