Day 32, August 12...Soldotna, AK to Anchorage, AK

I left Soldotna this morning and headed north about 15 miles to the town of Kenai, which is on the shoreline.  Kenai was first settled by the Russians in 1791 when they established a fur trading post there.  Kenai today is a small town at the end of the road, but seems to be very pleasant.  They have preserved some older buildings and that's what I came to see.

One of the buildings was a Russian Orthodox church built in 1894:

It was in great condition, and I saw the Priest walking to the church as I was leaving.

There were a couple other buildings of interest including an old house:

And a Memorial Chapel:

The town sits on a bluff above Cook's Inlet and the scenery along the bluff was nice:

I left Kenai and headed north toward north toward Anchorage. The weather was pretty wet, but I did get some nice shots along the way.  Here are a few shots I took along the highway:

Anyway, pretty scenery.  Tomorrow, I'm headed up to Tok and starting the trip toward the south.
