I left Monticello this morning and headed north on US 191 to Moab, Utah and Arches National Park. I've been here several times in the past, but this is one must-see trip.
The park itself is up on a mesa about 1000 feet above the town or Moab itself. This was taken from the top of the mesa looking down at the Visitor Center:
The park road runs about 25 miles through the park itself and has a number of stop-offs and viewing areas. I can't begin to describe all the scenery, but here's a taste:
This area is called Park Avenue because of the tall rock formations:
If you look carefully at this one, there is a rock balancing on top of one of the rock spires:
Here are a few more shots taken at various points in the Park:
This is Balanced Rock:
This is a double arch:
You really have to put this part of Utah on your bucket list...there is some beautiful scenery.
When I left Arches, I headed northeast on Utah Hwy 128 through a canyon carved by the Colorado River. Here are a few shots along the way:
Some amazing scenery and just not enough safe pull-off places to catch it all. Tomorrow I'm headed across the mountains to Pueblo, Colorado for the night.
