I left Prince George this morning to very cloudy skies and cool temperatures. The clouds remained all day, although I didn't really get any rain to speak of. I took Hwy 16 all the way to Jasper, about 235 miles. Most of the terrain until you get within 50 miles or so of Jasper consists of rolling hills and lots of trees. There was only one real town (McBride) about halfway between Prince George and Jasper, so this is really sparsely-inhabited country. Here are a few shots I took along the way, trying to get some pictures of the mountains. They are above the cloud cover, I'm afraid:
This was a little further down the road. You can just see some mountaintop through the clouds:
I thought this was pretty:
This was Moose Lake, about 50 miles west of Jasper on Hwy 16.
Jasper itself, of course, is a vacation destination both winter and summer and caters to every whim of the travelling public. Actually, it's a pretty, very nice little town that seems to be thriving. Here are a few pics of Connaught Drive, the main street through town:
They do have mountains, and I can prove it!
Anyway, nice, chilly day, but no rain to speak of. I'm headed south on the Ice Fields Parkway and then over the mountains to Cranbrook, BC tomorrow. Hopefully the skies will be a little clearer as this is probably the most scenic 300 miles in Canada.
